Is it getting hot in here, or is it just April 2024? If you’re starting (or have been feeling) a little warm under the collar, then take solace in the fact that it’s not just the warmer-than-average spring weather. Since the end of 2023, I’ve been pounding the table about the fiery cosmic currents of April.

This month is the hot spot of the year, in my opinion, and even if we don’t see -or better yet, understand - everything that is seeding in the coming weeks, it’s important to know April marks a pivotal turning point in the energy that is shaping our world and experiences. Between the Solar Eclipse with a bounty of planets fearlessly pioneering new beginnings in Aries, and the long awaited meeting of Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus, April contains two of the most highly anticipated cosmic configurations of the entire year!

Before we jump into the great unknown to plot our course for the month, let’s take a quick recap on where we’re coming from, because as you know, astrology, like our lives, never happens in a vacuum!

We’re coming off of a hell of a hazy March. After speaking with many, many people throughout the past month, I can confidently say that nearly everyone I’ve talked to has spent the last several weeks getting their sea legs amidst very choppy waves. Emotions have ebbed and flowed dramatically as the call to surrender, trust, and embrace has been echoing loudly through various aspects of our lives.

For some, March may have been a time of great creative breakthroughs, tapping into divine inspiration and exploring new possibilities. For others, it may have felt more like a period of healing and sacrifice, grappling with the currents of suffering. Maybe for you it was a blurring of both!

If you've been feeling adrift, disoriented, or a bit overwhelmed lately, get ready for April to shake things up and breathe new life into our sails. While I can't promise smooth sailing or absolute clarity, I can assure you that a fresh sense of determination, motivation, and initiative will be at the forefront.

Entering April

As we enter April, Aries season is already in full swing. The Spring Equinox kicked off in March, launching us into the season of beginnings, where we’re already treading some fresh ground. Aries season is packed with action, energy, movement, and well, to put it simply, life!

While the Aries sectors of our lives are lit up (check your natal chart to see which part of your chart contains the bold sign of Aries or book a reading to find out), there’s bound to be a churning and burning of momentum, perhaps even a few shows of force, the send us off on an adventure toward autonomy and independence. Aries is all about the self, and while yes, that can sometimes read a bit selfish, when Aries season rolls around, we’re all invited to consider ourselves as key players in our own life. 

Things are going to be kicking off all month, and one of the most important pieces of advice I can give to anyone looking to intentionally and consciously navigate these swiftly shifting tides, is to be incredibly mindful of your reactions.

Aries season highlights the warrior within us all, so while there is more than enough excitement, dynamism, and motivation to go around, be careful not to misplace it out of a need to react immediately. Aries season encourages our inner SPARK, but it’s up to us to recognize if the fuse is burning too short or too fast. During Aries season, remember that impulses run quite a bit higher, so it can be a little easier to slip into impatience, snappiness, or worst case, aggression.

Throughout the entire month we’re going to have an extremely distilled influx of Aries energy so there’s going to be plenty of opportunities for us to consciously pile on the hot coals of all this new found fight toward pursuits that invigorate us at the deepest levels of Self. Find what sets fire to your passion and go after it, but again, remember that explosives set without a plan can do more harm than they intend. In other words, seek your freedom, take courageous action, fight for what lights you up, but take care not to trample upon each other in the process.

And, before we continue forth, it’s also worth noting we enter April during Eclipse season! This is a pretty big deal, as Eclipse season only happens twice a year. The first eclipse in this current set we’re living through began with the Lunar Eclipse in Libra on March 25th.

I’ll get into the major need to knows about eclipses later on in the post, but for now it’s important to note that anything happening between March 25th, 2024 and April 8th, 2024 is part of an incredibly potent cycle of change and transformation that has been unfolding since April of 2023! Eclipses are harbingers of extremely powerful change, linked to massive cycles of endings and beginnings and here we are in the heart of it!

That’s right folks. We’re entering April in the eclipse window which means that it’s vital to pay extra attention to what’s combining into your life and what is falling away from it in the first week of April. And, dare I say, it’s even more important not to fight this energy. Easier said than done, I know, but eclipses are telling their own story and we’re along for the ride!

Okay - with the stage set, let’s dig into the Cosmic Currents of April 2024.

April 1st - Mercury stations Retrograde in Aries
Reflect, Reassess, Realign

Back up those files, double check those schedules, and brace raise the alert for misunderstandings, because on April 1st, we have our first notable cosmic current of the month. Mercury, Cosmic Coordinator of communication and processing pulls off the greatest April Fool's joke when it stations retrograde in the fiery and impulsive lands of Aries.

If you ask Aries, even backward momentum maintains its force. With the planet of intellect now reviewing recent ideas, a dynamic synergy arises, helping us untangle the motivations behind our thought processes and communication patterns. Be extra weary of foolishly rushing to conclusions without an thorough self assessment first.

Throughout this three-week period, there's an invitation for reflection, reanalysis, and review, prompting individuals to reconsider their goals and kickstart new strategies. The bold and impulsive energy of Aries might heighten the risk of misunderstandings and impulsive decisions, emphasizing the need for clear communication and caution.

Remember, when Mercury is in retrograde we do not have all the information we may require to make fully informed decisions. This isn’t to say we can’t make any decisions, but know that ideas, communication, and information can take sharp turns, or even derail completely from the original itinerary.

Be as flexible and responsive as possible, though the impulse may be to be reactive or combative. While there may be appropriate times to stand up for yourself, the important thing here is to ask yourself what is motivating me to react? What is it that I’m really trying to assert here? What do my thoughts and messaging spark in others? What do they spark in me?

This transit encourages a reassessment of assertiveness and leadership approaches, prompting a realignment of personal ambitions and a deeper exploration of individual identity. Just when you thought the cosmic currents couldn't get any more stirring, April 3rd brings us a captivating celestial embrace as Venus, the Cosmic Flirt, cozies up to Neptune, the Magician. This enchanting union of cosmic energies delves into the boundless and captivating realms of relationships and wonder.

If there ever were astrological equivalents to "rose-colored glasses," this pairing of Venus and Neptune in the dreamy sign of Pisces would certainly fit the bill. With Mercury recently beginning its retrograde journey, it's crucial to tread carefully amidst the allure of idealism that this cosmic duo can evoke.

As Venus ventures into fiery Aries, there's a palpable sense of urgency and spontaneity in matters of the heart. This cosmic shift urges us to pursue our desires with courage, determination, and, of course, passion. April 8th - Solar Eclipse in Aries

Okay folks, here we are. What I believe is one of the, if not the, most important days of the year (and no, not just because it’s my birthday!). On April 8th, we have the Solar Eclipse in Aries, and this is a pretty big deal.

First, it puts a wrap on the first eclipse season of 2024, setting the stage for what is to come in and out over the next 6 months. Second, unlike the Lunar Eclipse in Libra a few weeks ago, this Solar Eclipse has one of the more gnarly cosmic setups I’ve seen in awhile.

Let’s map it out.

Alright, folks, mark your calendars because April 8th is shaping up to be one of the most pivotal days of the year (and not just because it happens to be my birthday!). Why, you ask? Well, that's the day we'll witness the Solar Eclipse in Aries, and let me tell you, it's a cosmic event worth paying attention to.

For starters, this eclipse marks the conclusion of the first eclipse season of 2024, signaling what's to come over the next six months. But unlike the Lunar Eclipse in Libra a few weeks back, this Solar Eclipse comes with quite a cosmic punch.

Let's break it down.

First things first, this eclipse is charged with a highly reactive quality! As it unfolds in the fiery sign of Aries, it heralds a potent period of new beginnings and fresh starts. This celestial current pushes us to embrace courage, initiative, and self-discovery, urging us to boldly step into the unknown and seize the opportunities that await.

Amidst this cosmic upheaval, we're called to shed old patterns of people-pleasing, break free from limitations, and ignite the flames of our inner passions. Aries' bold and pioneering spirit fuels our ambitions, motivating us to take decisive action and pursue our goals with unwavering determination.

Now, let's talk about the added flavor this eclipse brings with the inclusion of Chiron, the wounded healer. At the time of the eclipse, Mars is in Pisces and just so happens to be having a heavy and grave powwow with Boss Man Saturn in Pisces. The union of Mars and Saturn has observerably produced frustrating experiences and oppressive circumstances, where it feels like our freedom, actions, and autonomy is somehow being limited or constricted. This puts a lot of pressure and weight on our sense of urgency, impulses to react, and ability to initiate on our ideals.

There is an undeniably somber and sobering vibe that is running through this energy, and to me, it looks as though the sheer confusion and volatility of order, authority, and regulations, that the eclipse itself signals a sensitive, perhaps even furious, reaction to the limits placed on our ability to take actions.

When you also take into account that Mercury is retrograde during the whole affair, it’s hard not to entertain the perspective that this eclipse is mobilizing folks to take action without all the initiatives for that action being made clear.

Now - everything I’ve just said is said from the objective perspective of the Eclipse itself. The ways it will impact each one of our individual charts is going to vary depending on your chart. For some of us this could initiate a massive move forward toward our goals, autonomy, and fight to live the most authentic life we can by getting very serious about the limits that must be dissolved. For others this may hit harder, reflecting some of the themes already outlined and forcing you to stand up for yourself against a harrowing fear or limit. Or perhaps you’ll land somewhere in between.

But certainly, from a collective level, there is no doubt some very important, alas even table turning, events are sure to unfold in the coming months. Though we may not be made immediately clear on the projects being initiated, fights being prepared, or the actions being taken in responses, I feel confident in the idea that this energy is going to be a marked turning point for years to come.

April 10th - Mars conjunct Saturn in Pisces

Though we will have definitely noticed this current pulling us into the undertow, it isn’t until April 10th, that Mars, Cosmic Commander and Saturn, Celestial CEO, join forces for their exact conjunction in the illusionary waters of Pisces. This can signal a major red light in the midst of the five lane highway we’re currently speeding through.

As Mars and Saturn converge, a unique blend of assertiveness and discipline permeates the cosmic landscape. In the best cases, this conjunction initiates a period of intense focus and determination, where our actions are tempered by patience and strategic planning.

However, in the ethereal realm of Pisces, Mars' energy may feel somewhat subdued, yet it's infused with Saturn's structured influence, fostering a sense of responsibility and purposeful action.

By the time the last third of April rolls around, many of us may feel destabilized by the recent volatility and swiftly moving currents. This is a major celestial event, especially considering Jupiter and Uranus only rendezvous in resource-rich Taurus once every 84 years! The energy is truly electric, yet it carries a grounded vibe of practical breakthrough.

We get another planetary pinch come April 21st, as the Sun, now luxuriating in Taurus, forms a square aspect with Pluto, currently stationed in Aquarius. Put simply: power dynamics are in focus with this cosmic alignment.

Our second lunation of the month (the Solar Eclipse in Aries was our first), comes on April 23rd, with the Full Moon in Scorpio. This is certainly a bit of an echo of the previous day’s themes, but this lunation has the added influence of folding in our innermost feelings for belonging and acceptance.

Unfortunately for us, April’s new and full moons aren’t top of the tier for 2024 lunations, however that doesn’t mean there isn’t a depth of powerful insight and reflection to be gleaned here. This Full Moon happens in a tight, tension filled dialogue with Pluto in Aquarius, forcing us to go uncomfortably deep into the caverns of our fears and pains. It’s not exactly cozy.

The Full Moon in Scorpio challenges us to confront our deepest fears and pains, encouraging us to delve into the hidden recesses of our psyche. Emotions are heightened, and hidden truths are brought to light during this intense lunar phase.

Scorpio's energy, characterized by intensity and mystery, beckons us to embrace the power of regeneration and rebirth. It calls for introspection and self-examination, urging us to uncover the underlying motivations behind our actions.

April 24th - Mercury station direct in Aries

On April 24th, Mercury finally concludes its retrograde journey, stationing direct in the assertive sign of Aries. After weeks of delays and misunderstandings, the planet of communication, intellect, and details begins to move forward once again, bringing a welcome return of clarity and momentum to our daily lives.

Mercury's direct motion in Aries sparks a renewed sense of assertiveness and initiative within us, urging us to take decisive action and pursue our goals with confidence. However, it's important to remain vigilant against impulsive decision-making (still!), as the energetic influence of Aries can sometimes lead to hasty judgments or rash conclusions. However, with more resolutions soon to arrive, taking risks that have been assessed and analyzed is encouraged!

As Mercury resumes its normal pace, we are encouraged to move forward with a refreshed mental vigor and determination. This is a time to seize the opportunities that have been reassessed during the retrograde period and to embrace the fresh start that Mercury's direct motion brings.
